After the success of last summer’s picnic gathering in Chelmsford, we’ve decided to split the difference this August – with a great spot lined up for everyone to meet for a social gathering in Ingatestone.

We’re going to be meeting at Fairfield, which is handy for the village centre, buses and the train station if you prefer not to drive. Even better, we will very kindly have access to Ingatestone Cricket Club, as an area to gather together outside AND to be able to use their bar and toilet facilities!!

This is a social event really open for all to attend and enjoy: Green members (not necessarily from Brentwood and Chelmsford), supporters, friends and everyone’s families too. Everyone really will be very welcome.

So pack a hearty picnic, a rug and your own picnic chair if you prefer and come along for a chance to chat with friends and new colleagues in a lovely setting (with a bar!).

When: Sunday August 17 (12pm-4pm) in Ingatestone

Where: Fairfield Recreation Ground, The Limes, Ingatestone, Essex CM4 0BS… head for Ingatestone Cricket Club’s pavilion

Buses: There is an irregular 351 bus service running Brentwood <> Ingatestone <> Chelmsford on Sundays at present

Trains: There is an hourly Greater Anglia service that stops at Ingatestone on Sundays in both directions, morning and afternoon

Any queries, contact B&CGP Chair, Julian Goode: chair@brentwoodandchelmsford.greenparty.org.uk or 07785 527106

Our next get-together is coming up next week – a summer Green Drinks in Chelmsford at The Ale House on the evening of Wednesday June 25.

Everyone is very welcome (from 7.30pm) – and if you’ve not been along to one of our meetings before…. then this is just the intro for you, as a relaxed social get-together to discuss various Green issues and current political topics of interest.

The venue is very close to Chelmsford train and bus stations at: 24-26 Viaduct Road, Chelmsford, CM1 1TS.

Then add to your diary – our July meeting… a Leadership Elections special!

Our summer meeting is on Wednesday July 23 in Brentwood – from 7.30pm – and everyone is invited to join us in person or online via Zoom! Hey Joe’s premises is on Ropers Yard just off Crown Street in the town centre, while members and supporters on our database are sent the Zoom link in advance too in case they are unable to join us in person on the night.

Our main focus for the evening will be the Green Party leadership elections happening this summer (with the ballots open through August), giving us all a chance to share thoughts on the candidates and the issues at stake.

Local democracy is the hot topic at this month’s meeting as we welcome a Green councillor as our guest speaker – and look at proposed changes to how local government might be working across Essex.

Our first monthly meeting of 2025 is on the evening of Wednesday January 22 (from 7.30pm), where we have a great speaker lined up: Rachel Eburne of Mid Suffolk District Council, talking to us about what it’s like to be a local councillor and a Green in the room.

That is sure to lead into discussion about the Government’s plans for reorganising local government in their English Devolution white paper – which could see May’s Essex County Council elections postponed, and all of our familiar local government bodies (like Brentwood Borough Council – offices pictured – and Chelmsford City Council) disappearing over the coming years. Come along on Wednesday, find out more and have your say!

That will take place at our regular venue, Hey Joe in Ropers Yard just off Crown Street in Brentwood – and, as usual, will also be available hybrid via Zoom for those unable to join in person.

The minutes from our November meeting and AGM can be downloaded as a PDF to read below:

B&CGP 2024 AGM and November meeting minutes

Diary dates for 2025 – and Donations info

Our first Green Drinks of the new year will be on Wednesday February 26. Details will be confirmed after next week, but it will probably be back at The Ale House in Chelmsford again. All will be very welcome to come along as usual.

We will have another meeting in March (Wednesday 26th), and a Green Drinks in April (Wednesday 23rd). More info to follow in due course, and see the B&CGP website for more details.

While we’re on the website, we’ve been asked about donating to Brentwood and Chelmsford Green Party – and if you’d like more information about how to do that on a one-off or regular basis and require our banking details, please see the Donate page on the website.
